Union City Litlle League

Frequently Asked Questions

Can boys and girls play in UCALL?

Absolutely – everyone is welcome.

Do you live in the UCALL boundary?

Determine if you live within UCALL boundaries (click here for map).

My child is 4 years old – can they play?

4 year olds can play in T-Ball.

Are you affiliated with Little League?

Yes.

Are you affliated with any other baseball organization or league?

No.

Why do you need 3 proofs of identification to sign up?

Little League is very strict about verifying residency i.e. that you live within our boundaries. The 3 forms of identification are part of our records to verify that the Legal Guardian of the child resides within our boundaries.

Why is the birth certificate important?

This document verifies your child’s age and helps us place him/her in the right division. Again, this is a requirement from Little League Headquarters that players must submit a proper copy of their birth certificate.

I live outside your area and have never played in UCALL before. I would like for my child to play in UCALL. Is that possible?

No. Little League rules require you to play in the local league based on where you live.  Please email us if you need more information at info@ucall.org.

My child is currently playing for UCALL.  We are moving outside UCALL boundaries. Can my child still play here?

Yes – you need to let UCALL know that you are moving and we have a process to keep you in the League as long as you play continuously (i.e. no break from year to year).

What can I expect as a parent in the League?

As a parent, you will have a great opportunity to make new friends or renew friendships from prior years. We have many examples of parents staying in touch with each other during the entire year as they have kids of similar ages.

Our League is run entirely by volunteers so we do ask our parents to help as much as they can with different volunteer activities (click on Volunteers to learn more) so that we can offer baseball to the kids.

Last but not least, you will have a wonderful time watching your child play!

How do you find your coaches?

Coaches and Managers are almost always parents who volunteer their time and energy to coach baseball. They are all screened and all of them also go for training to be certified coaches. We are very proud to have many coaches who have been with the League for several years.

How do you enforce safety?

Safety is our #1 priority in the League. Kids play with all the right equipment and we teach them how to play the game safely. The League also has a Safety Officer who is a member of the Board to oversee safety of all our players and coaches.

I want to volunteer as a parent. What can I do?

UCALL is a volunteer league which means that we run our operations by the time and generosity of our parents. There are several things you can do for the League:

  • Coaching – We need parents to be coaches for the kids. This is a great way to spend time with your child.
  • Umpiring – if you have an interest in umpiring games we can assign you to help us for specific games.
  • Snack Bar – The snack bar is always looking for volunteers to help support the booth.
  • Field Maintenance – Our fields are maintained to high standards and we have easy procedures to follow to keep the fields in excellent condition. You can help us rake, level the field etc.

Please click on our volunteer link on the site to learn more or you can send us an email at volunteer@ucall.org.

I am in high school and would like to volunteer. Can I get community service hours credit for doing this?

Absolutely. We welcome teenagers to come and help us. We have teen coaches, teen umpires and helpers in the snackbar.  Please click on our volunteer section to learn more. We can sign off on community service hours for you.
